Join the SCADA & OT Community of Practice on October 28 as Kaushal Chauhan present “Cyber Threats to Water Systems: OT Incidents and Lessons Learned”. The session will be led by our community co-leads, Bart Nelissen and Andrew Townend. This session will provide an overview of the current cyber threat environment affecting water sector operational technology (OT), recent incidents, and key lessons to help water utilities strengthen cybersecurity and operational resilience.

Kaushal Chauhan, Canadian Centre for Cyber Security
Kaushalendrasingh (Kaushal) Chauhan is the Senior Cyber Security Advisor for Critical Infrastructure Technologies at the Canadian Centre for Cyber Security.
SCADA & OT Community of Practice Co-Leads
1. Bart Nelissen
Bart Nelissen graduated from a Process and Environmental Technologies program in the Netherlands in 1993. He started his working career as a lab tech and later as a plant operator before starting to build control systems in the late ’90s. Since then, he has worked for various consulting companies, where he provided control system solutions for the oil and gas, water and wastewater, food and beverage, and manufacturing industries. Bart has been a SCADA / control system instructor for over 20 years, having instructed both general control system-related courses and specific SCADA software courses. In addition, he presents at various industry events throughout the province. Bart has been an active member of the BCWWA and Alberta AWWOA since 2015.
2. Andrew Townend
Andrew Townend is a Director and Senior Professional Electrical Engineer with PBX Engineering and leads the company’s Municipal Utilities business unit. Andrew acts as a senior design engineer on municipal water/wastewater, marine, and industrial projects throughout B.C. and Alberta. His expertise lies with power and controls systems for projects with complex requirements; through his experience he has gained extensive knowledge on the design, programming and commissioning of various PLC, RTU, HMI and SCADA systems. Andrew is a 2002 graduate of UVic and is based out of Victoria, BC and has been a member of the BCWWA since 2015.

This presentation is open to anyone, particularly those interested in the field of SCADA & OT and/or joining the SCADA & OT Community of Practice.
The purpose of the SCADA & OT Community of Practice is to share information and best practices related to Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition and Operational Technology to improve participants’ knowledge and performance, and to provide subject matter advice about important issues related to SCADA & OT within British Columbia and the Yukon.
