Last year’s event was very close resulting in a tie creating the need for a tie breaker. This year a “Sudden Death" round will be “on deck” in the event of a tie.
Registration Deadline: Friday, March 6th, 2020.
EVENT DESCRIPTIONS
Pump Tear Down Event
Operators will be required to tear down and rebuild a Boerger Lobe Pump Model PL200. Rotary lobe pumps are self-priming valveless, positive displacement pumps used in higher solids applications including sludge and scum pumping.
This challenge will consist of tearing down and rebuilding the wet end of the pump. To support this event, a document with resources will be provided. Additionally, teams will be connected with a supplier to have a hands on tear down session.
Water Treatment Process Event
In this event operators will be given a sample of process water and a pre-made flocculent solution to work with. Each team will need to find the optimal flocculent dose for their process water sample in order to treat it to the specifications that all teams will be given. Once the ideal dosage has been identified, participants will need to put their heads together to crunch some numbers and quantify their results.
Wastewater Collection Event
This event requires the connection of a 4 inch PVC lateral sewer to an existing 8 inch PVC sewer pipe. Teams will be judged on their raw time to complete the event, the position and tightness of the sewer service replacement section and all connections and safe work practices.
Wastewater Treatment Plant Process Simulator
This event will use the Hydromantis wastewater treatment plant simulator. Teams will be given a wastewater plant simulation with a series of plant process parameters and be required to change plant control settings in various stages of the process to bring the plant into compliance.
'Test the Waters' Competition
The 'Test the Waters' competition that will follow the four floor events will use interactive software to allow teams and all spectators to participate in answering a series of water distribution, wastewater collection, water treatment and wastewater treatment questions that will be taken from the Water System Operations (WSO) and ABC Need to Know Criteria.
