Operator Challenge: Water Wars

Water Wars Winners     Operator Challenge 2     BCWWA 2014 Conference 240

The BCWWA Annual Conference & Trade Show provides an opportunity for BC’s operators to compete and share their skills and knowledge, and to be recognized for their outstanding performance as water and wastewater professionals. The Operator Challenge will take place on Sunday, May 13, 2018.

Teams of three operators will compete in three round robin events and a knowledge challenge on Sunday May 13 at the Penticton Trade and Convetion Centre.

Collection Pipe Event: The event simulates connecting a 4 inch PVC lateral sewer line to an existing 8 inch PVC sewer pipe.

Water Main Live Tapping Event: The event simulates a service connection onto a live water main.

Wastewater Treatment Plant Simulation: This new event was first introduced at WEFTEC. Teams are given a computer simulation of a wastewater treatment plant and asked to make changes to improve the process. The results occur real time and scoring is done automatically. Teams will have an opportunity to practice this simulation prior to event day.

The "Test the Waters" Knowledge Challenge: This event pulls questions from level one and two knowledge base for distribution, collection, water treatment and wastewater treatment.

The winner will be chosen based on the combination of scores from each of the four events.

  • Collection Pipe - 30%
  • Water Main Live Tapping - 30%
  • Wastewater Treatment Plan Simulation - 10%
  • "Test the Waters" Challenge - 30%
