Nature of the Position
In 2015 the District of Sechelt commissioned one of the most innovative and advanced LEED certified wastewater treatment plants in Canada – The Sechelt Water Resource Centre. This is a state of the art, tertiary level, membrane filtration, wastewater treatment plant rated as a Class IV facility.

The District of Sechelt is seeking an individual to join our team as our Wastewater Chief Operator. As the Wastewater Chief Operator of the Sechelt Water Resource Centre, you will be responsible for the day to day operation for wastewater treatment, ensuring the facility meets all of its performance requirements safely and efficiently. You will be working closely with the technical support team from the technology supplier – Veolia Water Solutions Canada to refine the treatment operations.

Essential Competencies
Applicants must have completed Grade 12 (or equivalent); BC EOCP Wastewater Treatment Operator Level IV, or Level III with the experience and ability to reach Level IV within one year (or inter-provincial equivalent); BC EOCP certification in wastewater collection (or inter-provincial equivalent); a minimum of two years Direct Responsible Charge at a class III or higher wastewater treatment facility; hold a valid Class 5 Drivers License (or inter-provincial equivalent); and live within 30 minutes driving time of the Sechelt Water Resource Centre.

Applicants must have confined space training, workplace hazardous materials information system training and transportation of dangerous goods training; thorough knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations, SCADA systems, laboratory equipment, testing standards and methods; be proficient with spreadsheets, data manipulation and interpretation; and demonstrate analytical thinking, strong communication, leadership, team building and supervisory skills in a unionized environment.

Applicants must be competent in word processing and technical report writing; demonstrate a professional, responsible, positive work attitude, interpersonal skills and the ability to work both independently and as a team member; have the ability to react to and manage emergency situations and exert, sustain and repeat physical and mental actions necessary to complete tasks and work under conditions requiring strength, endurance and focused attention in all types of weather; and a strong commitment to service.

Preferred Competencies
Post-secondary education in water and/or wastewater technology is preferred.

Working Conditions
This is a permanent full time unionized position within the BCGEU open to both male and female applicants. Salary for this position is currently under review. Hours of work are 37.5 hours per week. Flexibility to respond to callouts on evenings and weekends is required.
