Position Overview: Reporting to the Manager, Solid Waste, Fleet & Shared Services, the Superintendent of Shared Services will work to build effective and productive team relationships while maintaining positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders, clients and residents. This position will plan and co-ordinate the activities and operations of the City's pooled labour and resources and will directly supervise the Works Yard Administrative staff. This position will also be responsible for Works Yard administration, the after-hours call-out program, centralized maintenance management services and customer service management and systems.

Responsibilities: The Superintendent, Shared Services is responsible for oversight of the works yard, including the following: coordinating stores and materials, ensuring Yard cleanliness, and overseeing maintenance and responding to maintenance issues. This position is involved in the hiring, training, scheduling and performance reviews for administrative staff and pooled labour and will administer the after-hours call out program. The Superintendent, Shared Services will support maintenance management systems, the attendance support program, improvements to centralized services and customer service for the Operations, Parks and Engineering divisions. This Superintendent will also support the development of metrics and KPI's and Operations best practices. This position will also participate in the development of annual and 5 year budgets and is responsible for management of related operating budgets and the preparation of reports, policies, estimates and other documents.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Technical certificate in engineering, business, procurement, risk management, or GIS (or equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered). Eligible for registration with ASTTBC (AScT or CTech) is an asset
  • Minimum 3 years of related, progressive experience managing large teams of unionized staff in a municipal operations, engineering or service related field
  • Further training in municipal operations, asset management, project management, fleet management or business related areas is an asset
  • Experience preparing and managing operating and capital budgets
  • Experience writing reports and presenting findings, results and recommendations to a variety of audiences
  • Class 5 BC Driver's License
