PEER REVIEWER | BCWWA EDUCATION PROGRAM

Position description: Peer reviewers for the BCWWA education program will aid in ensuring the relevancy, accuracy and overall quality of our course materials, thereby helping to ensure a competent water sector workforce. This role is responsible for reviewing student feedback on certification prep and elective course materials and providing final edits and recommendations to the education team.

COMMUNITY MODERATOR | BC SMALL WATER SYSTEMS COMMUNITY NETWORK

Position description: Community moderators are responsible for moderating online discussions to engage community members and ensure members on all areas of the community network are following the community network guideline. Community moderators should be knowledgeable about methods to mitigate harassment and unwanted behaviors and skilled at ‘planting seeds’ to encourage conversation and engagement. This role will offer recommendations to the BCWWA regarding the community network, assist in onboarding new moderators and participate in the Code of Conduct Committee and other associated meetings.

Time commitment: Variable and dependent on the number of volunteers. We are committed to working with all volunteers who express interest but individuals able to offer greater time commitments will have priority.

CO-LEAD | CROSS CONNECTION CONTROL COMMUNITY OF PRACTICE

Position description: The BCWWA Cross Connection Control Community of Practice Co-Lead is responsible for sourcing and selecting topics and moderating discussion and information sharing on the topic of cross connection control/backflow assembly.  As discussion and information sharing may occur using a variety of written, verbal, virtual and in-person formats, the co-lead must be experienced and capable of organizing resources as well as facilitating conversations of a technical nature in those various formats. Community of Practice co-leads work closely with the BCWWA staff person assigned to the community and the community participants; they also work (less frequently) with BCWWA leadership council co-chairs and other BCWWA volunteer leaders.

Additional time will be required to moderate virtual discussions and information-sharing between community participants. A Community of Practice co-lead may periodically be asked to attend meetings with the BCWWA Board of Directors and/or BCWWA leadership council co-chairs and other volunteer leaders.

MEMBER | OPERATOR PROGRAMMING COMMITTEE

Position description: Committee members are responsible for supporting the committee chair/co-chairs in the development and implementation of operator programming at both the Annual Conference and for other opportunities throughout the year. Working groups may be formed to focus on one aspect of operator programming.

As discussion and information sharing may occur using a variety of written, verbal, virtual and in-person formats, the co-lead must be experienced and capable of organizing resources as well as facilitating conversations of a technical nature in those various formats. Community of Practice co-leads work closely with the BCWWA staff person assigned to the community and the community participants; they also work (less frequently) with BCWWA leadership council co-chairs and other BCWWA volunteer leaders.

MEMBER | WEBSITE FUNCTIONALITY FOR MEMBERS FOCUS GROUP

Position description: Members of the focus group will provide valuable feedback to BCWWA about the development of our website’s member engagement functionalities, including the Member Directory, Communities of Practice area and Resources.

Time commitment:
 Up to 15 hours in total. Members can expect to spend approximately 10 hours attending meetings over the duration of the volunteer term. Additional time, estimated at five (5) hours, will be required to test and provide feedback on the functionality of the platform.

Term length:
 Six (6) months with possible extension to one (1) year.

MEMBER | 2024 YUKON WATER & WASTEWATER WORKSHOP & TRADESHOW PLANNING COMMITTEE 

Position Description: The BCWWA Yukon Water & Wastewater Workshop & Tradeshow Planning Committee members are responsible for assisting the Committee Chair and BCWWA Event & Sponsorship Specialist staff member in organizing a high-quality educational and professional development experience for the water sector. 

Committee members are expected to be active and contributing participants in committee meetings and discussions, continually seeking out and offering input and ideas to the committee from a broad cross-section of the Association’s membership. These positions work closely with the BCWWA Event & Sponsorship Specialist, the Committee Chair and fellow committee members; they work with other BCWWA volunteers on occasion.

All committee members are expected to be active and contributing participants, and a BCWWA, AWWA or WEF  membership is required to volunteer on this committee.

Number of positions open: 5

Time commitment: Up to nine (9) hours participating in nine (9) committee meetings between late-February and November 2024. Additional time will be required to coordinate and follow-up on tasks and actions assigned to the committee member. Whenever possible, the committee member should plan to attend the event October 16-17, 2024, in-person and support onsite activities.

Term length: Spring 2024 – Winter 2024
