BCWWA to Complete a Review of the Ministry of Health Services Source to Tap Assessment Guideline
The Ministry of Health Services has contracted with the British Columbia Water and Waste Association (BCWWA) to complete a review of the Ministry’s water system Screening Tool and Source to Tap Assessment Guide. The contract will commence in February and be complete by November 2005. The purpose of the program is:
- To evaluate the effectiveness of the Drinking Water Source to Tap Screening Tool;
- To evaluate the effectiveness of the Source to Tap Assessment Guide; and
- To provide recommendations on improvements to, and implementation of the Screening Tool and Guide.
This program will provide recommendations on the tools to be available to Drinking Water Officers and water system operators to carryout a screening assessment and if required a more detailed assessment.
In order to complete this assessment, the BCWWA has retained the services of Kerr Wood Leidal Associates Ltd. (KWL) Consulting Engineers to be the Project Managers. KWL was selected through a proposal call basis and approved by the BCWWA Board. In addition, about five additional consultants or individuals will be retained on a qualifications and proposal call basis to carryout the evaluations and pilot assessments parts of the program.
It is the intent of the BCWWA and KWL to seek input and involvement from representatives of many parties including the five Health Regions in the Province, the Ministry of Health Services, the Ministry of Water Land and Air Protection, members of the Peer committee who recently provided comments on the draft Assessment Guide and members of BCWWA.
The schedule for this program is to start immediately, an Interim Report on March 31, and a Final Report by November 30 this year. The key individuals responsible for the program are Del Haylock, Executive Director, BCWWA and Frank Belfry, P. Eng, President of Kerr Wood Leidal Assoc. Ltd.
