Waterline: Carbon neutral travel at the 2015 BCWWA Annual Conference (3)

The BCWWA, in partnership with Associated Engineering, is delighted to announce the purchase of 80 tonnes of carbon offsets from ClimateCare to offset delegate travel to and from the 2015 BCWWA Annual Conference & Trade Show.

The majority of conference attendees were from BC, but many travelled from across Canada, some from the US, and one attendee came from Japan.  Associated Engineering calculated the carbon dioxide emissions from air and car travel as follows:

Air: 49.55 tonnes
Car: 29 tonnes
Total: 78.55 tonnes carbon dioxide emissions

The carbon offset purchase will support the Gyapa cook stove project in Ghana. The Gyapa is an insulated and efficient cook stove that replaces traditional coal pots and open fire cooking. By offsetting the travel emissions from the 2015 annual conference, the BCWWA is supporting projects that make a measurable difference to people’s lives, as well as protecting the environment.
