UTILITY WORKER
LEVEL I WATER DISTRIBUTION AND LEVEL I WASTEWATER COLLECTION *

WATER QUALITY TECHNOLOGY DIPLOMA
(CUPE 2009 RATE $24.72)

 


The District of North Cowichan invites applications from candidates with the proven skills, qualifications, and abilities for the position of Utility Worker-Level I Water Distribution and Level I Wastewater Collection. This is a regular, full-time position. We recognize holders of certificates of the B.C. Environmental Operators Certification Program, at $0.61 per hour for each Water Distribution
and/or Wastewater Collection certificate, and $0.39 per hour for a Chlorine handler's certificate. Candidates will be encouraged to continue upgrading their B.C.E.O.C.P. certification.

The successful candidate will be required to perform a broad range of duties related to the safe and efficient daily operations, installation and maintenance of Municipal water, sewer, and storm drain systems. Deployment to other duties will be required from time to time.


Required Skills, Qualifications, and Abilities:


• Must have completed Grade 12 or equivalent (G.E.D.).
• Must possess and maintain a valid B.C. Class 5 driver's license; a satisfactory current driver's profile will be required.
• Possession of valid Level I Water Distribution and Level I Wastewater Collection certificates from the B.C. Environmental Operator's Certification Program and have a minimum of 2 years’ experience with the methods, practices, and procedures required to maintain water and sewer systems; or possession of a diploma from a Water Quality Technology program.
• Ability to undertake routine repairs to water distribution and wastewater collection systems.
• Ability to operate related maintenance tools and equipment including utility-related computer programs using basic keyboard skills.
• Ability to organize, coordinate and keep records of underground installations and facility functions.
• Ability to work alone under minimal supervision in a safe and efficient manner.
• Hours of work will include weekends on a rotational basis.
• Must be in good health and capable of physically demanding labour; a medical certificate attesting to suitability for the position may be requested. The incumbent must be clean shaven to allow SCBA use.


* A Level II Operator in Water Distribution or Waste Water Collection will also be considered.
