1. City of Penticton Wastewater Treatment Plant

Initially built as a secondary sludge plant in 1960, the facility has been upgraded extensively over the past 60 years. These upgrades have resulted in treatment capacity rising from 5,500 m3/day to 27 ML/day, and the facility is now classified as a Level IV BNR plant.

The tour will exhibit many of the plant’s upgrades, which include two new screw pumps, a high-speed Turbo blower, a new fermenter retrofitted from the decommissioned digester, upgraded bioreactors, and a new Microbubble generating pump – all from the last five years alone! Improvement works continue in 2018, with projects including upgrades to two lift stations, changing the pumping system to provide safer access, screw pump replacement, adding a further high-speed blower, upgrading the Motor Control Center and PLC upgrades.
