You and Water for People
![]() |
During
the first few years, WFP helped people in developing countries through
individual projects on a coordinated, but adhoc basis. A small core
of project volunteers helped communities dig ditches, lay pipe,
and build tapstands or household pumps. Now, with almost 400 projects
complete, WFP is a full-fledged development organization with strong
volunteer and financial support. WFP tends to fund small projects
between $500 and $25,000, which helps fill a critical niche for
work that might otherwise fall through the cracks of the international
aid system.
To realize its vision, WFP has four basic goals:1. To support sustainable projects that utilize local expertise and integrate water, sanitation, and hygiene activities.2. To obtain the necessary financial resources.3. To develop a strong communications program to educate and seek support from donors, volunteers, and related organizations.4. To continually evaluate and upgrade the quality of our partnerships.

Water for People Workplace Giving Campaigns
Fundraising ideas are limited by your imagination. Whether you want to set up a payroll deduction with your employer or host a fundraising event, we would like to help you. You may have already seen the United Way's annual fundraising activities this year. Maybe they prompted you to decide where best to put your charity dollar to help other's in your local community whom may be dependent on one of the many charitable organizations under the United Way's umbrella.
These groups all provide indispensable services to people in our communities but we would like you to think this year about an additional pledge option that you may not have known was available.
Water for People is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year. For 10 years it has been working to provide safe drinking water, install adequate sanitation systems, and educate proper hygiene practices in developing nations.
When you write Water for People Canada in the box for alternate charities you are supporting an organization, like the United Way, that believes in community based solutions. Your contribution will help to fund community based projects that can make a significant change in the daily life of many people and could even save lives.
Water for People Canada is a registered Canadian Charity. Reg. No.: 898221973RR001

Kenneth J. Miller Founder's Award
The Kenneth J. Miller Founders' Award was established in 2001 by the Board of Directors of Water for People to honor outstanding volunteer service being contributed to this international humanitarian effort. From its beginnings, Water for People was envisioned to be a volunteer effort of the North American water community. Water for People believed that water professionals throughout North America would recognize the urgent necessity to support such a cause by contributing their financial assistance, organizational skills, and professional expertise. This they have done, as local groups of water and sanitation professionals launched active programs in support of Water for People. As the organization grew and began to accomplish its vision of service, it became evident that extraordinary volunteer efforts were being made at the local level and that this dedicated work ought to be publicly acknowledged and honored. The Kenneth J. Miller Founders' Award was established to do this.
