BCWWA Wastewater Management Committee
The Wastewater Management Committee recognizes that the general topical area of treatment has expanded significantly in recent years as municipalities, utilities and industries respond to both historical and new and emerging challenges. More and more, wastewater is seen as a resource for the water, elements and potential energy it contains.
Recovery of these resources, rather than simply treatment of a waste, is now an important consideration within our industry and of significant interest to the public. So are climate change related-issues such as carbon footprint, and associated greenhouse gas emissions, and adaptation to climate change effects. In response to this contextual evolution, the Committee has set the following broad objectives to guide its activities:
- 1. Enhance awareness of issues pertaining to wastewater treatment/ management that will be up and coming important issues in the future.
- 2. Provide a venue and framework for regular discussion between regulators and service providers regarding wastewater issues in British Columbia.
- 3. Promote dialogue of wastewater topics among BC wastewater personnel located outside of the lower mainland.
- 4. Highlight the value of the Water Environment Federation (WEF), and associated Water Environment Research Foundation (WERF), and the relevant information and products produced by these organizations to our BCWWA membership.
