About SCADA & Information Technology Committee

The SCADA & IT committee was formed in 2003 under the British Columbia Water and Waste Association’s auspices. Our members are all from varying technical backgrounds. Some are Consultants while others are Municipal engineers, Vendors, and Municipal IT champions.

As champions of industry, we constantly challenged ourselves with meeting our extensive committee objectives.

Some of our other objectives include:

  1. To exchange ideas and materials of other organizations that has similar goals and objectives at improving regional wide and plant wide SCADA systems including integration with Information Technology professionals and Municipal Engineers and Operators.
  2. To develop appropriate training and informational formats, instructional methods, and materials designed specifically to meet the needs of SCADA automation, control and instrumentation networks.
  3. Provide a committee capable of providing mentorship for less experienced members of the BCWWA involved in similar work.
  4. To identify alternative consumers of data produced by SCADA and to push the data onto the desktop of these consumers. Additionally, to identify alternative producers of data and to provide SCADA with this data.
  5. To identify the industry understandings of SCADA and IT and to help educate the industry about our purpose and challenges.
  6. To develop best practices for integration between IT and SCADA professionals.
  7. Develop and maintain and effective liaison and communications network between AWWA and BCWWA in order to better facilitate the exchange and utilization of resources available.
