CCC Recertification Updates

Beginning January 1st 2010, all backflow assembly testers shall be required to recertify once every five (5) years in order to maintain “active tester” status. Once recertified, for each of the next four years you will only need to renew your BCWWA membership (i.e. by sending in your renewal form and payment) and submit a test equipment calibration report in order to maintain active status. Once recertified, you will no longer be required to notify BCWWA of having tested a minimum number of backflow prevention devices as part of your annual renewal.

At the moment, only current active testers who have certificate nos. between 1 and 4000 will be receiving a letter with recertification information via mail in the upcoming weeks. This first group of testers will be required to recertify before their expiry date in 2010.

All other current active testers will be notified by mail in the coming years of when they will be required to recertify. A recertification schedule is available in our Recertification Policy.

CCC Exam Re-writes

To better serve our cross connection control community, BCWWA is now offering written examination re-writes at our offices during the last week of each month. This means that examinees will no longer have to wait for training institutions to have a scheduled exam session that they can tag onto. Also, we are in discussions with training institutions, especially in the lower mainland, to offer the same for retaking the practical examination for those who do not pass their initial attempt. To find out when the next session for either one is, please have a look on our website at http://www.bcwwa.org/committees/cccc/exams/index.php

Re: UPDATE TO BCWWA CROSS CONNECTION CONTROL EXAMINATION ADMINISTRATION

Beginning 1st May 2009, all students wishing to sit CCC exams must register directly with BCWWA at least 2 weeks prior to sitting the exam. We have requested scheduled examination dates from each of the training institutions are in the process of updating these in our on-line registration system.  Each examination sitting will be shown on our website as ‘an event’ that the students, who qualify, will be able to register for and pay the examination fee online. Once payment is received they will be confirmed for that particular examination sitting.

Occasionally, BCWWA receives requests from testers who either did not take the exam at the time of training or who wish to re-take an exam.  If you only wish to sit for part of the exam (either just the written or just the practical), please send an email to cccadmin@bcwwa.org containing:

  1. Your name and contact information,
  2. Where and when you completed the CCC Course and the date you last sat the exam,
  3. If you can remember, the name of the individual who proctored the exam
  4. Whether you wish to re-sit the written or practical exam

Please do not hesitate to get in touch with Aaron Louie, the CCC Coordinator at , 604-433-4389 ext 221 if you have any questions or comments.

Sincerely

David Icharia

New Cross Connection Examination Fee

BCWWA offers a voluntary certification program for Backflow Prevention Assembly Testers.

This is to advise that the certification examination fee will be $100 per applicant effective January 1, 2009.   This fee includes a one-year free membership in BCWWA at a value of $60.

For those who are not successful on the first attempt at the certification examination, the re-examination fee will be $60 providing that re-examination takes place within one year following the first attempt.  This $60 re-examination fee will apply to either the theory examination, the practical examination, or both.

We would also like to remind you that as of January 1st 2009, all Cross Connection Control students must be taught using the AWWA Canadian Cross Connection Control Manual (Manual #1, 2007), replacing the PNWS-AWWA Cross Connection Control Manual, Sixth Edition.   An order form is available here.

Sincerely,

Daisy Foster

Chief Executive Officer

There's been a number of CCC testers concerned over the need to test two PVBA's (pressure vacuum breaker assembly) a year to satisfy the requirement of testing two of each type of testable assemblies for recertification of their CCC testers certificate. Since, the PVBA is part of the certification program and an assembly which is included and allowed under present plumbing codes and bylaws, it's a requirement of BCWWA to insist on continued testing of a minimum of two of these assemblies a year to maintain an active CCC testers certificate.

Special Message to Certified Testers:

Several years ago, the BCWWA adopted changes to the approved test procedures concerning the Double Check Valve Assembly (DCVA). These changes included the elimination of the duplex gauge as acceptable test equipment and when using a differential pressure gauge:

Testers should be aware that many municipalities require the static pressure drop across each check valve be recorded for DCVAs on their test report forms. Failure to follow current test procedures or record the static pressure drop can result in the disqualification of the test.
