Introduction

A Message from the Committee

The Cross Connection Control Committee is pleased to welcome you to our website. During the past few years the CCCC has been hard at work promoting backflow awareness throughout the province of British Columbia. Many times over this period, people have approached us to find a way for individuals and organizations to gain access to information and expertise that this committee had to share. So, it is our pleasure to bring to life just some of this information and knowledge.

The information contained throughout these pages is provided to assist those who are beginning a new cross connection program, want to find out what backflow is and how to prevent it, are looking for a website link in the industry, and much more.

We sincerely hope that this site is a helpful tool for our membership and anyone else eager to seek information and knowledge about cross connection control and backflow.

CCCC Mission Statement

To provide Education, Training, and to promote Cross Connection Control across the Province to ensure our users are receiving safe and contamination-free water.

Recent Changes

For the last couple of years the BCWWA Cross Connection Control Committee has been working with the national AWWA Canadian CCC Steering Committee to review and coordinate changes to the National Cross Connection Control Manual, update and maintain the proposed new national exam bank, address standards and codes issues and develop a unified approach to accreditation.

The first step toward a unified approach to National and BCWWA accreditation is the adoption of the AWWA Canadian Cross Connection Control Manual. As of January 1, 2009, all BC Cross Connection Control tester students must be taught using the AWWA Canadian Cross Connection Control Manual (Manual #1, 2007), which replaces the PNWS-AWWA Cross Connection Control Manual, sixth edition. In the meantime, proctors will be re-trained and will update exams to reflect the use of the new manual.

To order the AWWA Canadian Cross Connection Control Manual, please contact the BCWWA office.

In the latter part of 2009 or early 2010, all active Backflow Assembly Testers will be contacted about the changing requirements for recertification with BCWWA. After implementation of the recertification program, all active Backflow Assembly Testers will be required to recertify within a specified time period and every five years after that. Further details about recertification will be posted on the BCWWA website (www.bcwwa.org) under “Cross Connection Control”.

One of the Cross Connection Control Committee’s challenges in the next year will be finding and training proctors. If you are interested in becoming a proctor, click here.
