About the Cross Connection Control Committee

History

The Cross Connection Control Committee was founded in the City of Vancouver in 1971. Key individuals during these early years, included George Bratton, Don Currie, Bob Campbell, and Gary Fulton. They began by exploring the significance of backflow and cross connections within plumbing and water distribution systems on private and municipal property in the Vancouver area. Many of the meetings in these early development years were held in the basements and living rooms of the members.

As the awareness of backflow increased, so then did the membership of the committee. Meetings were now help on a monthly basis, at a designated location, as they are today. Membership is comprised of approximately 45 volunteers from a variety of professions and areas throughout the province. Plumbing Officials, suppliers, manufacturer’s representatives, cross connection control program managers, water utility administrators, instructors from educational institutions are the individuals who make up the lifeblood of the group.

As indicated in the committee’s Mission Statement, education and training is truly the mandate. The Cross Connection Control Committee is the recognized authority for the certification of backflow assembly testers in the province of British Columbia and the Yukon Territories. Today, the committee’s demands are ever increasing. Working with local, and regional Health Authorities, and partnering with educational institutions are now commonplace. The committee looks forward to the challenges ahead in the quest of ensuring safe and contamination free water for everyone.
