Reporting to the Manager, Operations, you will be responsible for overseeing the operation, monitoring, evaluation, maintenance, and repair of the City’s drainage and sewer systems. Your proven effectiveness as a supervisor or manager will enable you to supervise, mentor, and organize a staff of 27 involved in all aspects of drainage and sewer utility operations, including the environmental protection of rivers and streams.

Some of your responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory requirements
  • Short and long term staffing and equipment planning
  • Ability to effectively prepare and monitor budgets
  • Promoting safe work practices
  • Setting performance and quality targets
  • Maintaining an efficient and cost effective maintenance program
  • Coordination of crews and notification of appropriate authorities in the event of major system incidents.

The technical, managerial, and administrative nature of this role requires a well-rounded individual who is capable of making independent decisions related to the operation of the Drainage and Sewer Utility. The ideal candidate will have:

  • Degree or Diploma in Civil Technology or related field
  • Eligible for certification with ASTTBC
  • E.O.C.P. Wastewater Collection Level IV certification
  • Minimum 5-7 years related experience at a managerial/supervisory level
  • Knowledge of all applicable standards and regulations
  • Strong leadership and management capabilities
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of internal and external customers and stakeholders.
