Utility Wastewater & Water Operator – Level II

The mountain resort community of Sun Peaks, British Columbia attracts thousands of visitors annually to our world-class destination resort located a 45 minute drive north-east of Kamloops, BC. To meet the demands of our fast paced growth, Sun Peaks Utilities has an opening for another qualified operator.

Sun Peaks Utilities operates a Level II water treatment and distribution system and Level II wastewater collection and Level III wastewater treatment system for the resort community. Our three Water treatment plants are supplied by deep water wells and utilize high pressure green sand filters to remove some mineralization prior to distributing the potable water throughout the resort. The Wastewater treatment plant processes approximately 185,000 m3 of effluent annually and utilizes primary and secondary treatment (activated sludge). The plant also uses the wastewater solids to produce a high-grade biosolids utilizing an In-Vessel Composting System. Sun Peaks Utilities also operates the propane gas storage and distribution system for the resort community.

Sun Peaks Utilities has an opening for an EOCP (or equivalent) Operator with their Level II in Wastewater Treatment and/or Water Treatment with a minimum of 4 years of experience. The applicant must have a valid Class 5 Driver’s License or higher and either hold a Level 1 First Aid Certificate or have the ability to obtain one. Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) as well as the ability to deal with the public are key abilities that all applicants must have. Mechanical and equipment operational knowledge is also required. Heavy equipment, plumbing, electrical & PLC knowledge would be of benefit.

Additional related education and experience including water & gas meter reading, PRV operation and maintenance, and watermain/water service repairs and installations would be an asset. Previous Survey/Inspection work and have the ability to absorb knowledge on Bylaw Specifications in regards to utility service installations would also be of benefit.

The rate of pay is dependent on qualifications and experience. The job comes with a standard municipal benefit package. Hours of work will shift between 7:00 to 5:30, 4 days per week dependent on work load and the season. You must be available for weekend work, on-call and stand-by shifts. You must also maintain certification in good standing with EOCP as part of your job requirements.
