Opening Ceremonies

The BCWWA Conference Committee is thrilled to have Maude Barlow as our keynote speaker this year. As an influential Canadian author and activist, Barlow is highly involved in both international and national water justice communities. Her passion lies in creating a global recognition that water is a basic human right. From this passion came the Blue Planet Project, an advocacy group co-founded by Barlow that works to ensure that fresh water is free from trade and privatization world-wide. She currently holds 6 honorary doctorates, has written over a dozen books, acts as the chairperson of the Council of Canadians and has been appointed the United Nation’s first water issue senior adviser. Her presentation at the Conference and Trade Show promises to be a sensational hit. Be sure to catch this inspirational presentation during the Opening Ceremonies.
Annual General Meeting

After the opening ceremonies, join us for the BCWWA Annual General Meeting. The newly elected 2009-2010 BCWWA Board of Directors will be announced and introduced and they will discuss the exciting plans and policies for the year to come. A new addition to this year’s AGM is the members’ forum, where BCWWA members are invited to voice their opinions on the organization’s strategic planning and ends policies. This is the perfect time to give feedback and make suggestions to the new board members. Participation in this event is strongly encouraged and appreciated by staff and board members alike. After brightening your mood and relaxing your mind, it’s time to move your feet to classic rock band Crosstown Bus, which promises to keep you on your feet and singing along to great hits all night long!
