BCWWA's Committees form the working nucleus of the Association. They organize local symposia, seminars and workshops and produce position papers on important issues.

Cross Connection Control

Bob Sochowski

The Cross Connection Control Committee is the recognized authority for the certification of backflow assembly testers in the province of British Columbia and the Yukon Territories. Today, the committee’s demands are ever increasing. Working with local, and regional Health Authorities, and partnering with educational institutions are now commonplace. The committee looks forward to the challenges ahead in the quest of ensuring safe and contamination free water for everyone.

Decentralized Wastewater Management

The purpose of the DWMC is to advance technical knowledge and practice, and understanding of legislation and regulation in the area of small scale, domestic wastewater collection, treatment and re-use in British Columbia so as to protect the environment and public health and make wise use of financial, land and water resources.



Drinking Water

The Drinking Water Committee has a mandate to promote dialogue and facilitate the exchange of ideas and technology on topical drinking water quality issues amongst water suppliers, government, consultants, laboratories and other interested parties. 



Infrastructure Delivery & Finance

Mark Hodgson

The Infrastructure and Finance Committee is a source of information to government, regulators and general public in BC on delivery and finance models for water and wastewater infrastructure. They also act as an advocate for delivering water and wastewater infrastructure in a manner that produces greater value for ratepayers and supportive of municipalities pursuing public-private partnerships or other alternative delivery and finance models.

The Small Water Systems Committee consists of water system operators, regulators, and technical professionals who’s vision is to be a primary point of contact for small water system purveyors within BC facilitating the exchange of information and resources to ensure that these purveyors are able to effectively provide safe drinking water.

The goal of the SCADA & Information Technology Committee is to exchange ideas and materials of other organizations that has similar goals and objectives at improving regional wide and plant wide SCADA systems including integration with Information Technology professionals and Municipal Engineers and Operators.

Water For People is an international nonprofit development organization committed to the long-term impact of increased access to safe drinking water and improved sanitation and health. The BCWWA supports Water for People by undertaking numerous education, awareness, and fundraising activities.

The Water Sustainability Committee's mission is stewardship of a limited and vital resource, actively supported by an aware and educated citizenry. The Watermark editor is responsible for BCWWA’s quarterly communication publication as well as its annual directory. This involves soliciting newsworthy articles from the industry, coordinating layout and graphics with the publisher and maintaining a healthy balance of editorial content versus advertising. The professionalism and quality of the Watermark publications are a reflection on the credibility of the Association and the editor plays an integral and vital role in mirroring the Association’s image in each issue of the Watermark.
