The BC Water & Waste Association (BCWWA) is a non-profit association dedicated to providing networking and knowledge sharing opportunities for water and wastewater industry workers in BC and Yukon.
BCWWA Mission Statement:
Safeguarding public health and the environment through the sharing of skills, knowledge, education and experience, and providing a voice for the water and waste community.
About Us
Origins
Prior to 1973 the few people working in the water and waste water industry in BC had two choices of a "local" technical organization to belong to. They could join the Pacific Northwest Section of the American Water Works Association or the Pacific Northwest Pollution Control Association the Member Association of the Water Pollution Control Association. Both covered large geographic areas (BC, WA, OR, ID, AK) and many felt lost in these "American" sections.
About forty individuals decided to do something about it and against all negative commentary ("you don't have enough potential members to survive on your own") created the BCWWA, a separate section of each of the parent, international organizations.
From these modest beginnings, the British Columbia Water & Waste Association (BCWWA) has evolved into an organization supporting over 4,000 water and waste water professionals in BC and Yukon with training, educational opportunities, technology transfer, and networking opportunities.
